Interior Redesign on my Wish List
«
on:
April 24, 2008, 12:40:27 AM »
Hi guys,
So I came across
this thread
and was thinking holy shit, I gotta do this. I've hated my tan/gray interior ever since I've had my Altima so here's my chance to do something about it. I know it's lots of work but would also want to know your opinions on whether or not I should do it. The two options on my mind are:
1- Paint the suckers
2- Buy some new/used parts from a junk yard/online and replace them.
What do you think? I'm I crazy? YES! But I'd really like this to be done.

Oh, you absolutely can, but I still think you are crazy
Take a shot of you interior and point out what you want to do. A visual always helps.

Just remember that you have to be creative, not just copy some other fellow.
Play with ideas and then consider the work involved.
Most of the time this is way more work than first expected.
We already talked about making the D3 fit in your dash, that will be part of this work.
If you have the ideas before we start that project it will be easier to continue a theme in the future without re-doing what has been done.
If you plan ahead and commit to it you can make it work.
I would try to find door panels at a scrap yard in the color I want.
Paint on plastic never last, unless you spend serious time prepping.

About the D3, I have an idea of what I want. Nothing too complicated. I just want to make it look like it was made for the car and have it "embossed" coming out of the dash.
As for the color ideas, I really like Orange on Black. I'm almost thinking about getting the Katzkin leather kit and do it myself.
Still thinking about it though.
I want to wait until I finalize the audio project I started with Lars last year. Then I can decide what I want to do next. This has been added to my list though.

I like what he did with the interior panels, but those painted cloth seats look like ass.

The panels are hot. The dash, vents, switches are hot. The seats are gross and since then he has bought the Katzkin leather kit. If I can find a complete set of cloth black I would get it but to the extreme, I would get the leather kit.

If you want the panels painted remember a paint shop will make it look better than DIY paint.
I had the panels for the Maxima done because I did not want to do it and then have them redo it anyway.
Keep your ideas and we can talk about it when I am back.
I like making 'your ideas' because it is your car
I will be the one telling you if it is possible or not in the end
Not really, anything is possible if you want to spend the time and money to do it.

Sure thing Lars!
We'll finish last year's project before we start anything else!

C'mon Derek, I like starting projects and not finishing right away, just look at my damn house.
I have probably 10 projects started that are 50%-95% finished.
If you want the parts painted I can talk to the guy that does all my painting and I know it will be done right.
Have you decided on color yet?

I guess you are talking about the trunk here right?
I would really like a contrast between Black and Orange so I'm guessing the Subbox to be a bright firey orange with a gloss. Same thing for the Trim around my amp.
Here's an example of what I would like for the interior seats once I get done. That's what I would like for the audio setup look too.

It is better to wait until all panels that you want to paint is ready and then paint them all.

Do you have an idea of how long would it take to get it done? I mean, how long would I be without the panels because that would mean I would be without a car. Let me know!

I was without mine for two days, got them back the day after I dropped them off.
In your case you might want to leave them with me the night before.
It should not take more than that if we let him know it is coming.
